Nigo's record is built on firsts rather than trophies. He founded A Bathing Ape in 1994 and turned a Harajuku T-shirt line into a global brand whose shark hoodie and camouflage patterns are studied as turning points in fashion history. He was one of the first Japanese streetwear designers to be handed the creative direction of a major French house, taking over Kenzo in 2015 and returning as sole artistic director in 2021. Along the way he helped move streetwear from subculture to luxury, a shift now visible across nearly every major fashion brand. His collaborations with Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, Louis Vuitton and Nike trace the same arc from Tokyo club culture to the center of the industry.
