Night King

The Night King was created thousands of years before the events of the series, during the war between the First Men and the Children of the Forest. Seeking a weapon to turn the tide, the Children captured a man from the First Men and drove a shard of dragonglass into his heart in a ritual beneath a weirwood tree. This act transformed him into the first White Walker, a being of ice and cold. Over centuries, he built an army of wights and created other White Walkers from Craster's sons, all while waiting for the long winter to return.[edit]

The Night King is cold, calculating, and utterly devoid of emotion. He rarely speaks, communicating through actions and gestures. His single-minded goal is to erase all memory of the living, bringing an endless winter. He shows no mercy or hesitation, and his movements are deliberate and patient, reflecting a being that has waited millennia for his moment.[edit]

The Night King first appears in season 4, leading the attack on the Fist of the First Men. In season 5, he confronts Jon Snow at Hardhome, raising the dead with a gesture. In season 6, his origin is revealed through Bran's visions, and he marks Bran, allowing him to breach the Three-Eyed Raven's cave and kill the ancient greenseer. In season 7, he kills and resurrects Viserion, using the undead dragon to destroy the Wall. In season 8, he marches on Winterfell and is killed by Arya Stark with a Valyrian steel dagger, causing his entire army to shatter.[edit]
