The New Orleans Saints are a professional American football team based in New Orleans, Louisiana. They compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the National Football Conference (NFC) South division. The franchise was founded on November 1, 1966, by John W. Mecom Jr., David Dixon, and the city of New Orleans, and joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1967. The Saints play their home games at the Caesars Superdome, a domed stadium they've called home since 1975, after spending their first eight seasons at Tulane Stadium.

The team's early years were marked by struggle, going 20 consecutive seasons without a winning record or playoff appearance.
