About
Neutrogena started out in 1930 as Natone, a small company in Los Angeles founded by Emanuel Stolaroff. Back then, it supplied specialized beauty products to salons working with Hollywood's film industry. It was Stolaroff's nephew, Lloyd Cotsen, who took the reins in 1962 and gave the company its current name, Neutrogena, a nod to the French phrase meaning 'born of nature.' Cotsen had a vision to grow the brand beyond its professional roots, and he really succeeded in making Neutrogena a familiar name in homes across the country.
In 1994, Johnson & Johnson acquired Neutrogena, bringing it under a larger umbrella. More recently, in 2023, Neutrogena became part of Kenvue, which is the consumer health business that spun off from Johnson & Johnson. Today, Neutrogena's products are available in over 70 countries, benefiting from Kenvue's extensive global network. The brand's headquarters remain in Los Angeles, a location that connects it to its Hollywood origins and a key U.S. market.
