Piquet's three Formula One World Championships place him in an elite group of drivers, and his 23 Grand Prix wins rank among the best of his generation. His 1983 title was historic as the first for a turbocharged car, and his 1987 victory came after a season-long battle with Nigel Mansell that is still remembered as one of the sport's great rivalries.
