Nelly dropped his second studio album, Nellyville, on June 24, 2002, through Universal Records and Fo' Reel Entertainment. This collection of hip-hop tracks blends smooth melodies with hard-hitting beats produced by heavy hitters like The Neptunes, Just Blaze, and Jay E. The record features fourteen songs that explore themes of partying, romance, and street life, creating a sound that dominated radio waves across the globe. Two massive singles emerged from the project: Hot in Herre spent seven weeks at number one, while Dilemma held the top spot for ten weeks.

The commercial impact was immediate. Nellyville debuted at the summit of the US Billboard 200 with 715,000 copies sold in its first week. It stayed at number one for four non-consecutive weeks before eventually earning six-times platinum certification from the RIAA. By March 2011, sales in the United States reached over 6.4 million copies, securing its spot as the 14th best-selling rap album ever.
