My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren't Wicked
Otsuji
Overview
Miya Nakamura, a girl with crippling anthropophobia, expects the worst when she is taken in by the Kounokura family after her mother's death. She braces herself for the cruel stepmother and stepsisters of fairy tale fame, but instead finds a family that showers her with genuine affection. The comedy arises from Miya's constant misinterpretation of their kindness as hidden malice, leading to a series of misunderstandings that are both funny and touching.
Written and illustrated by Otsuji, the series began serialization on November 19, 2020, on Ichijinsha's Comic Pool section on Pixiv Comic. Ichijinsha publishes the Japanese edition, while Seven Seas Entertainment handles the English release, which started on May 2, 2023. Nine volumes have been published in Japan as of 2026, with eight available in English. The series has been called award-winning by its English publisher, though the specific award is not named in available sources.
An anime adaptation produced by studio Newon and directed by Keisuke Inoue is set to premiere on July 8, 2026. The series composition is by Nanami Hoshino, with music by Rina Tayama. Later story arcs introduce a precocious cousin and the intimidating Four Heavenly Queens, a group of high-society ladies who challenge Miya's growing confidence.
