Sombr wrote "My Body Isn't Ready" about the specific kind of paralysis that hits when you like someone but can't stand the way you look. He explained on TikTok that the song came from a place of insecurity: every time he wanted someone, his body image got in the way. The opening line places you right on the Fourth of July, watching friends head to the beach while the narrator stays home, stuck inside his own head. It's a small, specific detail that opens up into something a lot of people feel but rarely hear pop songs address directly.

The track was recorded between Sombr's bedroom and Sound City Studios in Los Angeles, with producer Tony Berg shaping its sparse, patient arrangement. Benny Bock's keyboards and Meg Duffy's guitar give the song a hazy, late-night feel that never rushes.
