My Body Isn't Ready

Shane Boose, performing as Sombr, released "My Body Isn't Ready" on June 25, 2026, to address the paralyzing effect of body dysmorphia on romantic connection. The track opens with a specific scene where the narrator watches friends leave for the beach on July Fourth while he remains isolated in his room. This detail grounds the song's exploration of insecurity in a relatable moment of social withdrawal rather than abstract sadness.

Recorded across Sombr's bedroom and Sound City Studios in Los Angeles, the production features a sparse arrangement led by Tony Berg. Benny Bock contributes keyboards while Meg Duffy plays guitar, creating a hazy atmosphere that never rushes the emotional delivery. Sombr sings the chorus almost in a whisper, delivering the line "I like you but my body isn't ready / I want you but the mirror won't let me" with a vulnerability that defines the entire project.

The accompanying music video directed by Gus Black stars Inde Navarrette as the love interest Sombr spots at a party. A group of bullies, including Josh Heuston and a card trick magician, physically drive the protagonist away from the gathering. This visual narrative serves as a metaphor for internal rejection, showing how self-loathing can manifest as external conflict. Critics noted the song's direct approach to dating anxiety, with Rolling Stone calling it evidence of Sombr understanding current pop culture trends. [edit]
