The Man with the Bag

Santa Claus faces a holiday crisis when the magical bag containing all Christmas gifts vanishes from the North Pole. The theft threatens to cancel the season entirely, leaving millions of children without presents. To recover the stolen goods before time runs out, the jolly old elf breaks his own rules and turns to the naughty list for help.

This unlikely partnership forms the core of The Man with the Bag, a family comedy directed by Adam Shankman that blends heist thrills with holiday cheer. The film stars Alan Ritchson as Vance, a skilled thief with a checkered past, alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in the role of Santa himself. Awkwafina joins the cast as the rogue elf Jingle who orchestrated the theft, while Michael Cyril Creighton, Liza Koshy, and Kyle Mooney round out a team of misfits ready to save the day. [edit]

The story opens at the North Pole where the traditional magic of the holiday season hangs in the balance. A rogue elf named Jingle steals Santa's iconic red bag, a mystical artifact containing all the toys and gifts destined for children around the world on Christmas Eve. Without this bag, the magic of Christmas cannot be delivered, threatening to cancel the holiday entirely and leaving millions of children disappointed. The theft sends the North Pole into chaos, leaving Santa Claus in a desperate situation where conventional methods will not suffice to track down the thief.

In a bold move, Santa recruits Vance, a former thief with a history of getting into trouble. Vance is an unlikely partner for the most famous figure in Christmas lore; while Santa represents order, tradition, and goodness, Vance embodies chaos, skill, and a cynical worldview. Their partnership creates a dynamic filled with friction, humor, and eventual mutual respect. As the duo sets out on their mission, they must navigate a series of obstacles designed to test their skills and their resolve.

The plot involves a race against time as they pursue the rogue elf across various locations, utilizing a mix of magical elements and grounded action sequences. Vance brings his criminal expertise to the table, using stealth, infiltration, and heist tactics that Santa has never employed before. Meanwhile, Santa must learn to adapt to this new, rougher style of problem-solving, blending his ancient wisdom with modern, unconventional methods. The supporting cast includes a team of misfits recruited to aid the pair, each bringing unique talents or complications to the group.

The central conflict is not just about retrieving the bag, but about the ideological clash between Santa's belief in redemption and Vance's experience with failure. As they get closer to the truth behind the theft, they uncover deeper secrets about the nature of Christmas magic and the consequences of breaking its rules. The film balances high-octane action with heartwarming family themes. Directed by Adam Shankman, known for his work in musicals and comedies, the movie promises to deliver a lively tone that avoids being too dark despite the heist premise. The story explores themes of second chances, the power of friendship, and the idea that even the most perfect figures like Santa can need help from unexpected sources. As the clock ticks down toward Christmas Eve, the stakes rise higher, forcing both Santa and Vance to confront their pasts and decide what they are truly willing to sacrifice to save the holiday. The setup establishes a clear goal: stop the thief, retrieve the bag, and ensure Christmas continues, all while navigating the comedic and action-packed hurdles placed in their path.[edit]
