After a near-fatal encounter with the farm's elderly owner, Remy is swept into the Parisian sewers and emerges directly beneath Gusteau's restaurant, a once-legendary establishment now struggling under the tyrannical head chef Skinner, who focuses on profiting from frozen foods.

While observing the kitchen, Remy sees a clumsy garbage boy named Alfredo Linguini accidentally ruin a soup. Driven by instinct, Remy leaps in and corrects the recipe with inspired adjustments.
