Overview
Los Angeles burns in the early 1990s, a city fractured by gang violence and a relentless war on drugs. Into this chaos steps Lieutenant Mike Harrigan, played by Danny Glover, a seasoned cop trying to keep order while navigating a department rife with corruption. The film shifts gears from gritty police procedural to high-stakes sci-fi thriller when an unseen hunter begins picking off both criminals and officers alike. Director Stephen Hopkins guides this 1990 release, blending the urban grit of the era with alien horror elements that define the Predator franchise. Produced by Lawrence Gordon and Joel Silver for a budget of $35 million, the movie grossed just over $57 million at the box office. While it did not match the massive commercial surge of its predecessor, it carved out a distinct identity by transplanting the alien hunter into a modern American cityscape rather than the jungle. The cast features strong supporting turns from Gary Busey as the corrupt Captain Peter Keyes and Rubén Blades as the principled officer Danny Archuleta. Critics and audiences gave it a solid 6.33 out of 10 rating, appreciating the fresh setting even if the execution felt slightly less tight than the original.
