Two years before the Civil War, Django is a slave who has endured brutal treatment at the hands of various owners. After they capture and kill the Brittles, Schultz reveals he wants to help Django find his wife, Broomhilda von Shaft, who was sold away years ago. Schultz proposes a partnership: Django becomes his bounty-hunting apprentice, and in return, Schultz will help rescue Broomhilda. Schultz and Django devise a plan: they will pose as a wealthy buyer interested in purchasing a Mandingo fighter, using that cover to negotiate for Broomhilda. But Candie is sharp, and Stephen is suspicious. Their scheme requires perfect acting and nerves of steel, knowing that one wrong word could get them killed.
