Phil Foster, a suburban accountant, and his wife Claire, a lawyer, live in New Jersey and feel their marriage has fallen into a rut. To reignite their spark, they have a standing date night every week. However, their usual routine of dinner and a movie has become somewhat monotonous. Claire suggests they try something more exciting, and Phil impulsively decides they should go to a highly exclusive restaurant in Manhattan, Thirteen, which is notoriously difficult to get a reservation at.

When they arrive, they are mistaken for a couple named the "Triplitts" by a group of men led by a gangster named Collins. The men believe Phil and Claire are there to retrieve a stolen flash drive containing incriminating data. To escape the immediate danger, Phil and Claire pretend to be the Triplitts and are given a deadline to produce the drive. This mistaken identity quickly escalates from a dinner reservation mishap to a full-blown criminal escapade across New York City.

Their attempt to escape leads them to steal a taxi, driven by an eccentric cabbie, who inadvertently gets caught up in their predicament before they are forced to leave him behind. The chase continues, and they find themselves entangled with a corrupt District Attorney, Frank Crenshaw, who is also after the flash drive. Phil and Claire are forced to seek help from Holbrooke, a former client of Claire's who is now a private security expert. Holbrooke, an ex-military operative, agrees to help them but seems to have his own agenda. The Fosters are pursued by both Collins's crew and two determined police detectives, Arroyo and Collins, who are investigating the Triplitts and the associated crimes.

Throughout the chaotic night, Phil and Claire must navigate a dangerous underworld, relying on their wits and their shared history as a couple to survive. They encounter various colorful characters, including a stripper named Katy who is involved with the Triplitts, and a man named Brad Sullivan who claims to be the real Mr. Triplitt. The Fosters' journey involves retrieving the flash drive, clearing their names, and ultimately confronting the people behind the conspiracy, all while their marriage is tested and strengthened by the extraordinary circumstances.[edit]
