Overview
A direct-to-video sequel that swaps the Balkans for the Korean peninsula, Behind Enemy Lines II: Axis of Evil arrived in October 2006 with James Dodson in the director's chair and a cast built around character actors rather than marquee names. Nicholas Gonzalez leads as Lt. Robert James, a Navy SEAL whose team is sent into North Korea to knock out a missile site. Matt Bushell, Keith David, Ben Cross, Bruce McGill and Denis Arndt fill out the roster as SEALs, commanders and spooks. Dodson wrote the script as well, and the production leaned on a modest budget rather than the first film's carrier-deck scale. The tone is lean, tense and procedural, closer to a cable war picture than a studio spectacle. It belongs to the Behind Enemy Lines collection, though it shares only a title and a premise with the 2001 original. Audience scores sit around 4.9 out of 10 on a small sample, which tells you most viewers found it serviceable rather than special. Pinar Toprak composed the score, Lorenzo Senatore shot it, and 20th Century Fox handled distribution.
