3 Idiots Collection
Overview
Aamir Khan plays Ranchoddas "Rancho" Chanchad, a first-year engineering student who shows up at one of India's most competitive colleges and immediately starts questioning everything. His two roommates, Farhan (R. Madhavan) and Raju (Sharman Joshi), get pulled into his orbit, and together they clash with the rigid dean, Viru "Virus" Sahastrabudhhe (Boman Irani). The dean's daughter, Pia (Kareena Kapoor Khan), becomes part of the story when Rancho catches her eye. Director Rajkumar Hirani, working from a script he wrote with Vidhu Vinod Chopra and others, keeps the tone light even as the film digs into the pressure of India's education system. Released on December 23, 2009, 3 Idiots runs 2 hours and 51 minutes and mixes comedy with drama. The budget was around $50 million, and it went on to earn more than $60 million worldwide. Ratings sit at 8.0 out of 10 from over 2,800 votes, and the film is part of the 3 Idiots Collection. It is a Hindi and English production from India, rated PG-13.
