Dr. Michael Morbius, a brilliant biochemist suffering from a rare and fatal blood disorder, has spent his life searching for a cure. Driven by the desperate need to save himself and others with the same condition, he develops a radical experimental treatment using vampire bat DNA. The risky procedure succeeds beyond his expectations, granting him superhuman abilities including enhanced strength, speed, and echolocation. But it also comes with an uncontrollable thirst for blood.

Directed by Daniel Espinosa and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, Morbius is the third film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe. Jared Leto stars as the titular character, alongside Matt Smith as Milo, Morbius's wealthy and manipulative surrogate brother who also suffers from the same disease. The film explores the moral conflict between Morbius's desire to use his powers for good and the predatory instincts he can't control. Released in March 2022 after multiple COVID-related delays, the movie grossed $167 million worldwide against a $75 million budget.

Despite its commercial performance, Morbius was panned by critics for its derivative plot, uneven visual effects, and tonal inconsistencies. Dr. Michael Morbius is a world-renowned biochemist who has spent his entire adult life fighting a rare blood disease that has plagued him since childhood. He shares this condition with his childhood friend Milo, a wealthy and charismatic man who has funded much of Morbius's research. The disease leaves both men weak and dependent on regular blood transfusions, and Morbius is determined to find a permanent cure.

Working in a high-tech laboratory with his colleague and love interest Dr. Martine Bancroft, Morbius develops a serum derived from vampire bat DNA. He believes that by merging human genetics with the bat's unique ability to regenerate and survive on blood, he can overcome the disease. However, the serum is unstable and requires human testing. Refusing to endanger anyone else, Morbius injects himself during a solo experiment aboard a private ship in international waters.

The transformation is immediate and violent. Morbius's body reshapes itself, granting him superhuman strength, speed, agility, and a form of echolocation that allows him to perceive the world through sound waves. He also develops a powerful thirst for blood. After accidentally killing a crew member while feeding, Morbius realizes the danger he poses and goes into hiding. He returns to New York, where he tries to control his urges by drinking artificial blood substitutes. Meanwhile, Milo, who has been getting sicker, discovers what Morbius did and demands the serum for himself.

Milo takes the serum and becomes a vampire, but unlike Morbius, he embraces his new powers and uses them to indulge his darkest impulses. He begins a killing spree across the city, leaving a trail of drained bodies. FBI agents Simon Stroud and Alberto Rodriguez, who have been investigating the deaths, suspect the involvement of a superhuman creature and begin tracking Morbius. Martine, who has been helping Morbius, becomes caught in the middle as Milo's rampage escalates.

Morbius is torn between his desire to protect the innocent and his need to stop Milo, who is not only his brother in all but blood but also the only person who truly understands his condition. The conflict forces Morbius to confront the monster he has become and decide whether to embrace his vampiric nature or find a way to control it. As Milo's attacks grow bolder, Morbius realizes that the only way to end the threat is to face his brother directly.[edit]
