Monsters vs. Aliens
"Earth's monsters unite to stop an alien invasion."
Overview
Released on March 24, 2009, this action-adventure title lets players step into the boots of Earth's most unlikely defenders. Developed primarily by Beenox for major consoles like the Wii, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows, the Nintendo DS version came from Amaze Entertainment. Players control characters such as Ginormica, B.O.B., and The Missing Link to recreate key scenes from the DreamWorks film. The game supports drop-in/drop-out cooperative play, allowing friends to join the chaos without interrupting the main campaign.
The narrative picks up right after Susan Murphy gets hit by a meteorite containing alien Goo. She grows to 49 feet 11 inches tall and joins a secret government facility run by General W.R. Monger. Alongside Dr. Cockroach Ph.D., The Missing Link, Insectosaurus, and the sentient blob B.O.B., the team fights back against Gallaxhar. His plan involves using the Goo to turn Earth into his new home base.
Gameplay
Players tackle levels in a third-person perspective where each monster brings a specific set of skills to the fight. Ginormica uses her massive size and super strength to smash through obstacles and crush enemies. B.O.B. floats around and morphs to fit through tight spaces or bounce high. The Missing Link relies on agility and swimming abilities to navigate water sections. Dr. Cockroach solves puzzles with his intellect and technology, while Insectosaurus flies over barriers and attacks with stingers.
Console versions feature vehicle sections where teams drive the Monster Mobile across various terrains. Combat sequences involve battling waves of alien drones and facing off against larger bosses. The Wii version incorporates motion controls so players can swing Ginormica's arms or throw B.O.B. using the remote and Nunchuk.
Story
Susan Murphy stands on her wedding day when a meteorite strikes her. The rock contains alien Goo that causes her to grow to a height of 49 feet 11 inches. General W.R. Monger recruits her immediately for a top-secret facility housing other monsters. The group includes Dr. Cockroach Ph.D., The Missing Link, Insectosaurus, and B.O.B. They must stop Gallaxhar from using the Goo to transform Earth.
Players traverse environments recreating movie scenes. The journey ends with a final battle against Gallaxhar and his forces. Each level requires switching between characters to solve environmental puzzles or reach areas inaccessible to others.
