Moneris Solutions

Moneris Solutions is a Canadian financial technology company that specializes in payment processing for businesses. It was founded in December 2000 as a 50/50 joint venture between the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and the Bank of Montreal (BMO), formed by combining their respective merchant services divisions. Headquartered in Etobicoke, Ontario, Moneris operates additional offices across Canada, including Sackville, New Brunswick; Burnaby, British Columbia; Montreal, Quebec; and Calgary, Alberta.

The company offers a comprehensive suite of payment solutions, encompassing point-of-sale (POS) terminals, online payment gateways, and mobile payment options. Moneris was recognized as the first Canadian payment processor to provide both Visa and Mastercard merchant accounts through a single point of contact and the first to implement an integrated POS system for consolidated deposits. In October 2003, Moneris expanded its offerings by acquiring Ernex Marketing Technologies, a company known for its loyalty programs and gift card services.

Moneris is considered the largest payment processor in Canada, managing over 3 billion transactions annually and serving more than 350,000 merchant customers, which accounts for approximately 35% of the Canadian market. In 2025, the company reported annual revenue between $700 million and $750 million, with a valuation potentially reaching $2 billion.
