    About

Miu Miu was born in 1993 when Miuccia Prada, then already running the family luxury house, launched a cowgirl-themed collection with fringed suede jackets and patchwork prairie skirts. The name came from her own childhood nickname. From the start, the brand was meant to be something different, more playful, more rebellious, and less constrained by tradition than Prada itself. For its first three seasons, Miu Miu showed in the United States before moving to Paris Fashion Week in 2006. By 2005, Prada had set up a separate showroom for Miu Miu in an Art Nouveau villa that had once been Prada's first Milan headquarters, physically marking the brand's independence.

Today Miu Miu is a fully owned subsidiary of the Prada Group, with Silvia Onofri serving as CEO. Miuccia Prada remains the creative force, drawing on her background in political science and her early involvement in Italy's women's rights movement Rivolta Femminile. The brand's aesthetic is deliberately contradictory, feminine but tough, intellectual yet spontaneous. Its collections mix delicate dresses with chunky loafers, prim collars with sheer fabrics, and have made unexpected items like ballet flats and micro-miniskirts into cult objects. In 2023, Miu Miu reported revenue of €753 million, a 93 percent growth spurt that outpaced most of the luxury sector.

Miu Miu's cultural reach extends beyond clothes. The Miu Miu Literary Club hosts salons with writers and critics. The Miu Miu Club throws parties in unusual venues like the Palais d'Iéna in Paris. And the Miu Miu Women's Tales film series commissions short films from female directors, including Ava DuVernay and Haifaa al-Mansour. These initiatives have helped the brand claim the top spot on the Lyst Index as the world's hottest fashion label in recent quarters, even as larger luxury houses faced consumer pullbacks.
