Missy Elliott has shattered ceilings throughout her career. She is the first female rapper inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2023) and the Songwriters Hall of Fame (2019), and the first to receive the MTV VMA Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award (2019). She holds the distinction of being the only female rapper with six platinum albums certified by the RIAA. Her record for the most weeks atop the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart with "Hot Boyz" stood for 19 years. In 2021, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and in 2024 she was awarded the National Medal of Arts, the highest honor given by the U.S. government for artistic achievement.
