Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid

Kobayashi is just your average overworked programmer, slogging through another day at the office. One hungover morning, she heads to the mountains to clear her head and meets a massive dragon named Tohru. Turns out, the dragon can take human form, and after Kobayashi drunkenly invites her to stay, Tohru decides to become her live-in maid. What follows is a chaotic, heartwarming blend of fantasy and everyday life as Tohru and other dragons, the adorable Kanna, the laid-back Lucoa, the grumpy Fafnir, and the competitive Elma, integrate into the human world.

Written and illustrated by Coolkyousinnjya, the series began in Futabasha's Monthly Action in May 2013. After that magazine folded in February 2024, the manga moved to Manga Action. It's collected in 16 volumes as of October 2024, with over 1.5 million copies in print. Seven Seas Entertainment handles the English release. The series has also spawned five spin-off manga, each focusing on a different dragon: Kanna's Daily Life, Lucoa is My xx, Elma's Office Lady Diary, Fafnir the Recluse, and Tohru's Recipe Notes.

Kyoto Animation adapted the manga into a hit anime. The first season aired in early 2017, with a second season, Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S, following in summer 2021. A film, Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved, premiered on June 27, 2025. There's also a video game, a stage play, and a ton of fan art, Kanna in particular has become a meme icon. The series is praised for its found family themes, sharp comedy, and the surprisingly tender relationship between Kobayashi and Tohru.[edit]
