Milton Keynes Dons Football Club, often referred to as MK Dons, was established in 2004. The club's formation followed the controversial relocation of Wimbledon F.C. from South London to Milton Keynes. From its inception, the club has officially recognized 2004 as its founding year, adopting its current name, emblem, and club colors at that time. Wimbledon F.C. itself had origins dating back to 1889 in South London.

The team plays its home matches at Stadium MK, a venue they began using in the 2007-08 season. Before moving to Stadium MK, the club's home ground was the National Hockey Stadium. The 2007-08 season marked a significant achievement, with MK Dons winning both the League Two title and the Football League Trophy. The club experienced promotion to the Championship in the 2014-15 season under manager Karl Robinson, though this spell in the second tier lasted only one season before relegation back to League One. The club has competed across all three divisions of the English Football League.

MK Dons is recognized for its commitment to youth development. Since its founding, the club has seen numerous academy graduates make their first-team debuts. Notable alumni include England international Dele Alli, who progressed through the club's youth system.
