    About

Millwall Football Club, based in Bermondsey, South East London, is a professional football club competing in the EFL Championship, England's second tier. Founded as Millwall Rovers in 1885, the club has kept its name even though it last played in the Millwall area of the Isle of Dogs in 1910. After that, they moved to New Cross, where they played at what is now called The Old Den until 1993, when they shifted to their current home, The Den. The club's crest features a rampant lion, giving rise to their nickname, The Lions. Their traditional kit is dark blue shirts, white shorts, and blue socks.

Millwall was a founding member of the Southern League in 1894, winning the title in 1895 and 1896 before joining the Football League in 1920. Since then, they've been promoted 11 times, five as champions, and relegated nine times, spending most of their history bouncing between the second and third tiers. Their brief top-flight spell from 1988 to 1990 included a tenth-place finish in the old First Division, their highest ever. In 2004, they reached the FA Cup Final and qualified for the UEFA Cup for the first time. They've also won the League One play-off finals in 2010 and 2017.

The club's supporters have a reputation for hooliganism, a theme explored in films, and they're known for the terrace chant "No one likes us, we don't care." Millwall has a long-standing rivalry with West Ham United, contested nearly 100 times since 1899, and also shares rivalries with Leeds United, Crystal Palace, and Charlton Athletic.

    History

Millwall's early years saw them dominate the Southern League, winning back-to-back titles in 1895 and 1896. They joined the Football League in 1920 and spent decades in the second and third tiers, with occasional flirtations with promotion. The 1988-89 season marked their first ever top-flight campaign, and they finished tenth in the old First Division, a club record. That spell lasted just two years, but it remains a golden era for older fans.

The 2004 FA Cup run was a fairy tale. Under Dennis Wise, Millwall, then in the second tier, beat Sunderland, Burnley, and Tranmere to reach the final at the Millennium Stadium. They lost 3-0 to Manchester United, but the run secured a place in the UEFA Cup, their first European adventure. More recently, the club has bounced between the Championship and League One, winning the League One play-off finals in 2010 and 2017 to return to the second tier.

The Den, their current home, opened in 1993 with a capacity of 20,146. It's known for its intimidating atmosphere, especially the old Cold Blow Lane end. The club's identity is deeply tied to its working-class roots in South East London, and the supporters' loyalty is fierce, even when results are poor.
