Pletnev's achievements are remarkable for their breadth. He is one of the few musicians to have achieved international acclaim as a pianist, conductor, and composer. His 1978 Tchaikovsky Competition victory was a turning point in his life, and he went on to build a career that has spanned over four decades. His founding of the Russian National Orchestra was a historic moment for Russian music, and his recordings have been praised for their insight and technical brilliance.
