Before stepping into the spotlight as a global wrestling icon, Stephanie Hym Lee cultivated a foundation rooted in martial arts discipline. Growing up in the 909 area code region of the Inland Empire, she immersed herself in training that would later define her physical style. She developed extensive backgrounds in both Muay Thai and Taekwondo during her formative years, honing a level of agility and striking capability that set her apart from many peers entering the industry.

Her journey into professional wrestling began on the independent circuit, where she spent years refining her craft away from the glare of major television cameras. During the early 2010s, she became a staple in promotions like Shimmer Women Athletes and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. Her reputation grew steadily through high-profile matches in Japan's World Wonder Ring Stardom, where she competed against some of the most respected talent in the world. These years of grinding on the indie scene established her as a formidable competitor before the world took notice.

The pivotal moment that shifted her trajectory occurred in 2017 during the inaugural Mae Young Classic. Despite being relatively new to the US mainstream stage, her performance garnered immediate attention from WWE scouts. This breakthrough led to her signing with the company, marking the end of her independent era and the beginning of her tenure as a full-time WWE Superstar. [edit]
