NYPD officer James Edwards chases a suspect through the streets of New York, only to discover the man is an extraterrestrial with superhuman abilities. Before he can process what he saw, Edwards is intercepted by the Men in Black, a clandestine government agency that monitors alien activity on Earth. Agent K, a veteran MiB agent, explains that thousands of aliens live among humans in secret, and the agency's job is to police them while keeping their existence hidden. K trains J in the agency's ways: the neuralyzer erases memories, the paperwork is endless, and the rules are non-negotiable. Meanwhile, a giant insectoid alien known as the Bug crash-lands on Earth, kills a farmer named Edgar, and wears his skin as a disguise. J and K investigate the Bug's trail, which leads them to a medical examiner named Laurel Weaver, who has stumbled onto the alien presence after autopsying an extraterrestrial. They must decide whether to trust her or erase her memory. The Bug eventually tracks the galaxy to the World's Fair pavilion in Queens, where the Arquillian royal family has been living in exile. The Bug kills the Arquillian prince and steals the galaxy, which is revealed to be a small marble containing an entire universe. The Bug retreats to its spaceship, hidden beneath a suburban house, and prepares to leave Earth. K and J, along with Laurel, pursue the Bug into its ship, hoping to retrieve the galaxy before it triggers an intergalactic war.[edit]
