About
Members Only emerged from the Broward County underground in 2014, born from a juvenile detention center friendship between XXXTentacion and Ski Mask the Slump God. What started as a two-man operation quickly ballooned into a sprawling collective of over twenty rappers, producers, and visual artists. The group never had a formal contract or business structure, membership was based entirely on personal connections and shared creative energy. They released four mixtapes between 2015 and 2019, with each volume showing a slightly more polished take on their raw, confrontational sound.
The collective's rise coincided with the SoundCloud rap explosion of the mid-2010s. Tracks circulated through streaming platforms and YouTube, bypassing traditional radio. XXXTentacion's magnetic presence and genre-defying music, he mixed punk, emo, and R&B into hip-hop, made him the group's de facto leader and its biggest star. His murder in June 2018 at age 20 sent shockwaves through the music world and effectively ended the collective's momentum. Surviving members completed Members Only, Vol. 4, released on what would have been XXXTentacion's 21st birthday. The album debuted at number 18 on the Billboard 200, the group's only charting project.
After that release, the collective went on indefinite hiatus. Several key members left to focus on solo careers. Three members have died: XXXTentacion, producer Khaed from heart complications in 2019, and former member Tablez from an accidental overdose in 2022. The collective's legacy lives on through its influence on the emo rap and SoundCloud rap genres that dominated the late 2010s.
Formation Story
In 2014, Jahseh Onfroy and Stokeley Goulbourne met while both were incarcerated in a juvenile detention center in Florida. They bonded over their love for rap music, trading verses and freestyles. After their release, they stayed in touch and started recording together under the name Members Only, inspired by the 1980s jacket brand that symbolized exclusivity.
The duo quickly attracted other Florida-based underground artists. There were no auditions or formal tryouts. Friends of friends showed up to the studio and joined the rotation. By 2015, the collective had grown to include over a dozen members, all contributing to the first two mixtapes released that year. The group operated without a formal hierarchy, though XXXTentacion's growing popularity naturally made him the central figure.

Musical Style
Members Only's sound evolved across their four mixtapes, but always retained a raw, lo-fi edge. Their early work on Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 featured aggressive trap beats, distorted 808s, and punk-infused energy. XXXTentacion brought genre-bending elements, emo melodies, R&B crooning, and screaming vocals, while Ski Mask delivered rapid-fire, playful flows. The production, handled by members like Bass Santana and Khaed, kept a DIY aesthetic that became a hallmark of the SoundCloud rap movement.
By Vol. 3 (2017), the sound had grown more cohesive and polished, though it never lost its underground grit. Vol. 4, completed after XXXTentacion's death, leaned into more commercial territory while still honoring the collective's signature aggression. The group's lyrical content often touched on pain, violence, and mental health, delivered with an intensity that resonated with a generation of disaffected youth.

Cultural Impact
Members Only played a key role in the SoundCloud rap movement that reshaped hip-hop in the mid-2010s. Their lo-fi, DIY approach proved that artists could build massive audiences without traditional label support or radio play. XXXTentacion's fusion of punk, emo, and R&B into hip-hop opened the door for a wave of genre-blending artists like Juice WRLD, Lil Peep, and Post Malone.
The collective also put Broward County, Florida on the map as a hip-hop hub. Their success inspired a generation of young artists to upload raw, unpolished music directly to streaming platforms. XXXTentacion's murder in 2018 sparked national conversations about violence in the music industry and the vulnerability of young black artists. Though the collective never achieved mainstream critical acclaim, its influence on the sound and distribution model of late-2010s hip-hop is undeniable.
Fandom Culture
Members Only did not have an official fandom name, lightstick, or fan color. Fans of the collective typically identified as followers of individual members, particularly XXXTentacion. His fanbase, sometimes called the Revenge Army or simply X Fans, was known for its intense loyalty and online presence. After his death, fans organized tributes, murals, and memorial events. No organized fan projects or traditions existed specifically for the collective as a whole.

Trivia
The name Members Only was borrowed from the 1980s jacket brand, chosen for its connotations of exclusivity. XXXTentacion and Ski Mask the Slump God met in a juvenile detention center and bonded over their shared love of rap music. The collective was closely tied to another Florida group called Very Rare, and members of both collectives often referred to themselves as VR All-Stars. Three members of the collective have died: XXXTentacion (murdered in 2018), producer Khaed (heart complications in 2019), and former member Tablez (accidental overdose in 2022). Despite having over twenty members at its peak, the group never had a formal contract or business structure.
