    About

McLaren is a British motorsport and luxury automotive group, best known for its Formula One team and high-performance sports cars. The organization operates primarily through two subsidiaries: McLaren Racing Limited and McLaren Automotive, both under the McLaren Group. With roots dating to 1963, McLaren has become one of the most successful and recognizable names in motorsport, winning 203 Grands Prix, 13 Drivers' Championships, and 8 Constructors' Championships. The racing team, currently competing as the McLaren Mastercard F1 Team, is headquartered at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey, a facility renowned for its striking architecture and engineering focus. Beyond racing, McLaren Automotive produces road-legal supercars and hypercars, including the iconic McLaren F1, the P1 hybrid, and the Artura. The group is majority-owned by Mumtalakat Holding Company (Bahrain's sovereign wealth fund) and, as of early 2025, CYVN Holdings of Abu Dhabi holds a significant stake in the automotive division. McLaren employs around 2,600 people and reported revenue of £815.5 million in 2024.

    Mission

McLaren aims to compete at the highest level of motorsport through engineering innovation and to produce world-class luxury sports cars that embody performance and technology. The organization is committed to pushing the boundaries of design and efficiency, both on the track and on the road.

    History

Bruce McLaren founded Bruce McLaren Motor Racing in 1963, using prize money from his own racing career. The first car, the M1A, debuted in 1964. McLaren entered Formula One in 1966 at Monaco. Tragedy struck in 1970 when Bruce died in a testing accident at Goodwood. Teddy Mayer took over, and the team won its first Drivers' and Constructors' Championships in 1974 with Emerson Fittipaldi.

In 1981, Ron Dennis merged his Project Four team with McLaren, bringing a culture of precision. That year, the MP4/1 introduced the carbon-fiber monocoque, a safety revolution. Under Dennis, McLaren dominated the 1980s with Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna, winning multiple titles. The 1990s saw further success with Senna and later Mika Häkkinen. In 1992, McLaren launched the F1 road car, the world's fastest production car at the time.

The 2000s brought mixed results. The 2007 Spygate scandal cost the team a $100 million fine and exclusion from the constructors' championship. After a period in the midfield, the team returned to race-winning form in the 2020s, with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri leading a resurgence. The opening of the McLaren Technology Centre in 2004 provided a state-of-the-art base.
