Mauricio Ruffy

Mauricio Ruffy is a Brazilian mixed martial artist competing in the Lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Born on June 17, 1996, in Coruripe, Alagoas, he has quickly risen through the ranks with a spectacular knockout-heavy style. As of June 2026, he is ranked #7 in the official UFC lightweight rankings. Ruffy has won 13 of his 14 professional victories by knockout, a 93% finish rate that makes him one of the most dangerous strikers in the division. His nickname, taken from the main character of the anime One Piece, reflects the creative and explosive approach he brings to the cage. Fans and analysts alike describe him as must-watch television every time he steps into the Octagon. [edit]

Ruffy started training in mixed martial arts at age 14 in his hometown of Coruripe, a small city in the state of Alagoas. Shortly after beginning, he relocated to São Paulo to pursue his professional career. Between fights in his early years, he worked as a bodyguard for a Chinese billionaire, a period he later described as filled with unseen battles and personal adversity. He turned professional in 2016 and fought on the Brazilian regional scene, building a reputation as a finisher. His last pre-Contender Series fight was a second-round knockout of UFC veteran Ronys Torres, which helped earn him a shot at a UFC contract. [edit]

Ruffy earned his UFC contract on October 3, 2023, by stopping Raimond Magomedaliev via TKO on Dana White's Contender Series. He made his promotional debut at UFC 301 on May 4, 2024, knocking out Jamie Mullarkey in the first round. After a decision win over James Llontop at UFC 309, he scored a spectacular spinning back kick knockout of King Green at UFC 313 in March 2025, earning his first Performance of the Night bonus. He suffered his first UFC loss in September 2025, submitted by Benoît Saint Denis in Paris. Bouncing back, he defeated Rafael Fiziev by TKO at UFC 325 in February 2026, earning another Performance of the Night award. On June 14, 2026, he scored the biggest win of his career, stopping former title challenger Michael Chandler via strikes in the first round at UFC Freedom 250, held on the South Lawn of the White House. [edit]

Ruffy is widely regarded as the most explosive finishing prospect in the UFC lightweight division. His fighting style is characterized by creativity and spectacular finishes, including flying knees and spinning back kicks. He trains with The Fighting Nerds and Freestyle Fighting Gym in São Paulo. Fans and media describe him as must-watch mixed martial arts, with a high-energy approach that has made him a rising star. He maintains a relatively private social media presence, focusing on training and fight highlights rather than personal content. [edit]

Mauricio Ruffy commands a growing audience within the global mixed martial arts community, driven by his explosive striking style and high finish rate. As of August 2026, iFANN has evaluated his standing in the global consciousness, yet he does not currently hold a placement in the published rankings for the Global Top 1,000 or any Top-100 scope list. This absence from the ranked tiers reflects his status as an active contender rather than a pop culture icon with widespread recognition beyond combat sports circles. His support base is composed primarily of UFC followers and fans of the lightweight division who follow his record and upcoming bouts, such as the scheduled face-off against Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 331. Unlike entertainment figures with designated fan clubs, Ruffy lacks a formal fandom name, relying instead on the organic following generated by his performances at The Fighting Nerds and Freestyle Fighting Gym. There are no documented organized campaigns, fan-funded projects, or specific rituals associated with his name. While he maintains a public social media presence where he identifies as a servant and lists partnerships, interactions remain standard for a professional athlete without the viral folklore or legendary incidents that characterize figures with established cult followings. The narrative surrounding him remains strictly tied to sporting results and press conference tensions rather than mythical lore or extraordinary crowd reactions.[edit]

Mauricio Ruffy's nickname is derived from the main character of the anime One Piece. He achieved a rare feat by winning two fights on the same night at Centurion FC in May 2023. Nine of his fourteen professional victories are first-round finishes, and he has only been taken to a decision once in sixteen career fights. Before his rise, he worked as a bodyguard for a Chinese billionaire. His reach measures 75 inches, providing a significant advantage in the lightweight division. Recent events have added to his competitive narrative, including a decisive victory over Rafael Fiziev at UFC 325. A notable confrontation occurred ahead of their co-main event bout at UFC 331 when Ruffy faced off against Arman Tsarukyan; the tension was so intense that UFC President Dana White intervened to prevent heated exchanges from escalating further. Following a loss to Benoit St. Denis, teammate Carlos Prates publicly hinted at an untold story behind the defeat, suggesting circumstances that did not reflect Ruffy's true ability, though these remain contemporary sports narratives rather than established folklore.[edit]
