Thybulle's defensive accolades place him among the elite. He is one of the few players to win both the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year and the Lefty Driesell Award in the same college season. In the NBA, he earned back-to-back All-Defensive Second Team selections, a rare feat for a player in his first few seasons. His 126 steals in a single Pac-12 season remains a conference record. He also contributed to Australia's first Olympic medal in men's basketball in 2020, a bronze.
