Nakayama's trophy cabinet is a testament to his consistent excellence over a long career. He is one of only a handful of players to win the J.League MVP and top scorer in the same season, a feat he achieved in 1998. His four selections to the J.League Best XI place him among the most recognised forwards of his generation in Japan. On the international stage, he helped Japan win their first AFC Asian Cup in 2000, a milestone in the country's football history. His longevity and loyalty to a single club make him a rare figure in modern football.

AwardsNakayama won the J.League Most Valuable Player award in 1998 and was the league's top scorer in 1998 and 2000. He was named to the J.League Best XI four times, in 1997, 1998, 2000, and 2002. Internationally, he won the AFC Asian Cup with Japan in 2000 and the Asian Club Championship with Júbilo Iwata.
