Mederos grew up in Colorado, where he developed an early interest in combat sports without public disclosure of specific childhood details or family background. He kept his upbringing private, focusing instead on physical training and discipline. Before stepping into the professional spotlight, he honed his skills through amateur and regional MMA circuits rather than traditional scouting pipelines. His path to the top was not paved by fame but by consistent performance in lower-tier promotions where he demonstrated the raw talent needed to survive against seasoned opponents.

The turning point for his career came when he caught the attention of Dana White through standout performances on the regional scene. This led to an opportunity on Dana White's Contender Series, a high-stakes platform designed to identify and sign elite talent directly. Mederos did not just participate; he delivered a performance that secured him a contract with the UFC. This transition marked the end of his pre-fame years and the beginning of his life as a globally recognized athlete, moving him from local gyms to international broadcasts. [edit]
