Markwayne Mullin's career is marked by historic firsts and political achievements rather than traditional awards. He became the first Native American in the U.S. Senate since 2005 and only the second Cherokee senator since 1925. In 2026, he made history as the first Cherokee Nation citizen to serve in a presidential cabinet and the first Indigenous leader of the Department of Homeland Security. These milestones reflect his unique path from small business owner to high-ranking government official.
