Markus Schleinzer

Schleinzer's record is short and selective, and that is the point. A feature debut in the main Competition at Cannes is a rare entry, and it came to someone arriving from the casting side of the industry rather than from film school or a run of shorts. Fifteen years later Rose premiered at Toronto with Sandra Hüller in the lead, which confirms that the first film was not a one-off. His standing in Austrian cinema rests on the casting years as much as the directing: more than 60 productions for Haneke, Seidl and Hausner is a body of work most casting directors never approach.
