Marianne Elliott

Marianne Phoebe Elliott was born on December 27, 1966, in London. She started her career without any intention of entering the theatre world, yet she found herself drawn to the craft while working at the Royal Exchange in Manchester. By 2002, she had become an Associate Director at the Royal Court Theatre in London, marking a turning point in her professional life. Her extensive tenure at the Royal National Theatre between 2006 and 2017 solidified her reputation as a leading voice in British theatre before she launched her own production company alongside producer Chris Harper in 2016. Elliott earned critical acclaim and massive box-office returns for several major productions that later moved to Broadway. She directed the original West End run of War Horse in 2007, followed by The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time in 2012. Her revival work also garnered significant attention, including Tony Kushner's Angels in America in 2017, Stephen Sondheim's musical Company in 2018, and Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman in 2019. These projects contributed to her winning two Laurence Olivier Awards and five Tony Awards. In 2024, she expanded her portfolio beyond the stage with her feature film directorial debut, the biographical movie The Salt Path. Her contributions to the arts received formal recognition when Queen Elizabeth II appointed her an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2018 Birthday Honours.
