Maria Bopp

There is no trophy cabinet to describe, and it would be dishonest to pretend otherwise. What Bopp has is a body of work that mattered to a specific audience at a specific moment. Call Me Bruna put a transgender protagonist at the centre of a Brazilian streaming series and ran four seasons doing it, which is more than most award winners manage. Her column has run for the better part of a decade, and her digital writing gave her a direct line to readers that prizes do not confer. The recognition she receives is the kind that shows up in citations and profiles rather than on a stage.
