About
Marco Rose was born in Leipzig on September 11, 1976, and has spent most of his adult life in football, first as a player and then as a manager. He is currently the head coach of Premier League club Bournemouth, a post he took in 2026. Before that, he built a reputation in Germany and Austria as a coach who develops young players and wins trophies. Rose's managerial career began with Mainz 05's second team, followed by a stint at Lokomotive Leipzig. He then moved to Red Bull Salzburg, where he worked his way up the ranks. After winning the UEFA Youth League with the club's youth side, he was promoted to first-team manager in 2017. In his two seasons in charge, Salzburg won the Austrian Bundesliga both times, and in 2019 they completed a domestic double by adding the Austrian Cup. That success earned him a move to the German Bundesliga with Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he spent two seasons before joining Borussia Dortmund in 2021. He led Dortmund to the DFB-Pokal final in 2022 but lost to RB Leipzig. He then took over at Leipzig in 2022 and won the DFB-Pokal in 2023, beating Freiburg on penalties. His time at Leipzig ended in 2024, and after a break he returned to England with Bournemouth in 2026. Rose's coaching style emphasizes high pressing and quick transitions, and he has a track record of getting the most out of young talent. At 50, he has already managed in two of Europe's top leagues and won silverware in both.
