Marat Safin's career is marked by several historic firsts. He was the youngest world No. 1 in the Open Era when he achieved the ranking in 2000, a record that stood until 2011. He is the tallest player ever to hold the top spot. He and his sister Dinara are the only sibling pair to both reach world No. 1. His two Davis Cup titles with Russia were the nation's first and second in the competition's history. His induction into the Hall of Fame in 2016 made him the first Russian man to receive that honour.
