Map of the Soul: 7, the fourth Korean-language studio album from BTS, arrived on February 21, 2020, via Big Hit Entertainment. Following the 2019 EP Map of the Soul: Persona, this full-length record incorporates five of that EP's tracks while pushing deeper into the group's personal narrative. The members have described it as "deeply personal," reflecting on seven years of growth since their debut. Sonically, it spans pop, R&B, and hip-hop, with touches of rock, trap, and EDM woven throughout. The lyrics wrestle with reflection, introspection, and self-acceptance, making for a cohesive, emotionally charged listening experience.

BTS enlisted a notable roster of collaborators: Halsey appears on "Boy with Luv," Ed Sheeran co-wrote "Make It Right," Troye Sivan contributed to "Louder Than Bombs," and Sia lends her voice to "On." Production was largely handled by Pdogg, with additional work from Suga, Jimin, Fred Gibson, Hiss Noise, El Capitxn, Supreme Boi, and Arcades. The album was a massive commercial force, topping charts in over 20 countries and becoming the best-selling album worldwide in 2020. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 422,000 album-equivalent units, and within nine days, it sold over 4.1 million copies in South Korea, setting a Guinness World Record. The lead singles, "Black Swan" and "On," both hit the Billboard Hot 100, with the latter reaching number four. The album swept major awards, including Album of the Year at the 2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards and Melon Music Awards.
