Manuel Merino

Manuel Merino's political career is notable for its unusual trajectory, though not for awards or honors. He achieved the rare distinction of serving three terms in Congress, representing his home region of Tumbes, and rose to the presidency of Congress. His brief presidency, however, is remembered more for its controversy than for any positive achievement. In the annals of Peruvian history, his five-day tenure stands as a cautionary tale about the fragility of political legitimacy.
