Malmö FF

Malmö FF, officially Malmö Fotbollförening, is a Swedish professional football club based in Malmö, Scania. The club competes in Allsvenskan, Sweden's top division, and plays its home matches at Eleda Stadion, a 22,500-seat venue opened in 2009. Malmö FF holds the record for the most Swedish championship titles with 24, and also leads in Svenska Cupen victories with 16, both national records. Their sky-blue and white kits and the nickname Di Blåe (Scanian for The Blues) are emblematic of the club's identity.

Founded on 24 February 1910, Malmö FF won its first national championship in 1944. The club's golden era was the 1970s, when they secured five league titles, four cup trophies, and became the first and only Nordic club to reach the European Cup final in 1979, losing 1–0 to Nottingham Forest. That achievement earned them the Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal and a place in the 1979 Intercontinental Cup. Malmö FF also tops the Allsvenskan maratontabellen (all-time table) for most wins and goals scored.

The club's primary rivalry is the Skånederby with Helsingborgs IF, dating back to the 1920s. They also have a fierce competitive rivalry with IFK Göteborg, and a historical local rivalry with IFK Malmö, though the latter has faded. The official fan club is MFF Support, founded in 1993, which organizes tifos, chants, and away-day travel. Malmö FF was founded on 24 February 1910 when a group of local youths gathered at a café to form a football club. The club initially played in blue and white stripes, but adopted the sky-blue shirts in 1919. Malmö FF won its first Swedish championship in 1944 under manager Kálmán Konrád, and repeated the feat in 1949, 1950, 1951, and 1953, establishing an early dominance. The club also won the Svenska Cupen for the first time in 1944.

The 1970s were transformative. English manager Bob Houghton took charge in 1974 and implemented a 4-4-2 system with a high defensive line, which was innovative at the time. Under Houghton, Malmö FF won five league titles (1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1979) and four cups. The pinnacle came in 1979 when the club reached the European Cup final, eliminating Dinamo Kyiv, Wisła Kraków, and Austria Wien before losing 1–0 to Nottingham Forest in Munich. That remains the furthest any Nordic club has advanced in the competition.

After Houghton's departure in 1980, the club experienced a decline, winning only one league title in the 1980s (1986). The 1990s saw a resurgence under manager Åge Hareide, who led the team to league titles in 1998 and 1999, and a Champions League group stage appearance in 1999–2000. The club also won the league in 2004, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2020, 2021, 2023, and 2024. In 2024, Malmö FF secured its 24th championship, extending its record.
