Lund University

Lund University, known in Swedish as Lunds universitet, is one of Northern Europe's oldest and most respected institutions of higher learning. Founded in 1666 by King Charles XI of Sweden, it was established on the site of a medieval studium generale next to Lund Cathedral, in the province of Scania. The university was created partly to solidify Swedish influence over the region, which had been ceded by Denmark under the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658. Today, it operates as a public research university with nine faculties and additional campuses in Malmö, Helsingborg, and Ljungbyhed, enrolling around 46,000 students across 265 programs and employing more than 8,600 staff.
