Hemmings' solo debut When Facing the Things We Turn Away From reached No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, making him one of the few Australian artists to top the chart with a solo debut after being part of a successful band. The album also charted in the top 20 in Belgium and the UK. His EP Boy and subsequent tour demonstrated his ability to sustain a solo career alongside his band commitments.
