Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara, and Sophia Kerr co-founded LuckyChap Entertainment in 2014 after a drunken night at the London premiere of The Wolf of Wall Street. They moved into a shared house in Clapham and mapped out a production company that would prioritize female-driven, filmmaker-led stories. The name is a nod to Charlie Chaplin, though none of the founders can remember exactly why.

Their first feature, I, Tonya (2017), earned Allison Janney an Oscar and set the tone for a slate that balances awards ambition with commercial reach. Birds of Prey (2020) grossed over $200 million worldwide, Promising Young Woman (2020) won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, and Barbie (2023) became a global phenomenon at $1.446 billion. On television, the Netflix limited series Maid (2021) brought raw domestic drama to streaming audiences.

In February 2024, LuckyChap signed a multi-year first-look feature film deal with Warner Bros. Pictures. In January 2026, the company launched LuckyChap International, a London-based joint venture with Mediawan Group led by Mona and Tanya Qureshi, expanding its reach in the UK and Europe. Across their slate, LuckyChap projects have gathered 25 Oscar nominations and 18 BAFTA nominations as of 2024. [edit]
