Lucid Dreams

Jarad Anthony Higgins released this track on May 4, 2018 as the lead single from his debut studio album Goodbye & Good Riddance. The song arrived through Grade A Productions and Interscope Records after Higgins refined a demo originally posted to SoundCloud in late 2017. Its structure alternates between melodic singing and rapid-fire rapping over a haunting loop, establishing a sound that defined the transition of SoundCloud rap toward more introspective genre-blending music.

The production team of Nick Mira and Poo Bear built a beat around a sample from Sting's 1993 hit Shape of My Heart. This choice required formal credit for the British rock musician alongside Higgins, marking a significant moment where hip-hop sampling ethics were publicly acknowledged through royalty splits. The resulting blend of trap rhythms with emotional vulnerability resonated immediately with listeners seeking raw lyrical content about heartbreak and addiction. [edit]
