    About

Liverpool Football Club is a professional football club based in Liverpool, England, competing in the Premier League. Founded on 3 June 1892 by John Houlding after a dispute with Everton over rent at Anfield, the club has played its home matches at Anfield ever since. The stadium, originally built in 1884, now holds 61,276 spectators and is renowned for the passionate atmosphere generated by the Kop stand. The club's anthem, "You'll Never Walk Alone", is sung before every home game, symbolizing solidarity among fans.

Liverpool is one of the most decorated clubs in English and European football, with a record 52 major trophies. Domestically, they have won 20 league titles, 8 FA Cups, a record 10 League Cups, and 16 FA Community Shields. In Europe, they boast 6 European Cups, 3 UEFA Cups, 4 UEFA Super Cups, and the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup. The club is owned by Fenway Sports Group, chaired by Tom Werner, and their training base moved from Melwood to the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby in November 2020.

Key rivalries include the Merseyside Derby against Everton and historic clashes with Manchester United. The club's crest features flames and the founding year 1892, commemorating the 1989 Hillsborough disaster, a tragedy that deeply shaped fan identity and remembrance culture. With a global fan base, Liverpool remains one of the most valuable and widely supported clubs in the world.

    History

Liverpool FC was founded on 3 June 1892 by John Houlding following a dispute with Everton, the previous tenants of Anfield. The club quickly rose through the English league system, winning their first league title in 1901 under Tom Watson. A second championship followed in 1906, but then came a 24-year drought until George Kay led the club to its fifth league title in 1946-47. However, that success was followed by an eight-season stint in the Second Division before Bill Shankly's transformative era began in 1959.

Under Shankly (1959–1974), Liverpool transformed from a Second Division side into a dominant force, winning three First Division titles. His successor Bob Paisley led the club to its first European Cup in 1977, beginning a golden era of domestic and continental success. Joe Fagan and Kenny Dalglish continued the trophy haul in the 1980s, with Fagan winning a European Cup, a First Division title, and a League Cup in 1983-85, while Dalglish added more silverware as player-manager.

After decades of waiting, the club ended its 30-year league title drought in 2019–20, winning the Premier League under Jürgen Klopp. Klopp also delivered the Champions League in 2019. In 2024, Arne Slot succeeded Klopp and won the Premier League in his debut season. As of the 2025–26 season, the club finished 5th in the Premier League.
