Records
Murkowski has achieved several historic firsts in her political career. She is the first woman to represent Alaska in the U.S. Congress and the first Alaskan-born U.S. senator. In 2010, she became the first candidate since 1954 to win a U.S. Senate seat as a write-in candidate. She has served as chair of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, positions that allow her to shape policy on issues critical to Alaska.
