Lindt & Sprüngli

Rudolf Sprüngli-Ammann opened a small bakery in Zurich in 1845, planting the seed for what would become a global chocolate empire. The company took its current shape when his son-in-law Rodolphe Lindt joined the firm and revolutionized production with his invention of the conching process in 1879. This method of continuous mixing and aerating eliminated grit from cocoa paste, creating the signature smooth texture that defines the brand today.

While the family lines eventually merged to form the entity known as Lindt & Sprüngli AG, the brand identity solidified over the late 19th century. The introduction of the LINDOR truffle in 1949 marked another pivotal moment, establishing a product line that remains the company's flagship offering worldwide.

Headquartered in Kilchberg near Zurich, the company operates as a pure-play manufacturer focused exclusively on chocolate. This specialization distinguishes it from diversified food conglomerates that spread their resources across various categories. The Kilchberg site also houses the Lindt Home of Chocolate, a major tourist attraction where visitors can observe the manufacturing process and explore the history of Swiss confectionery. [edit]
