Like Jennie

Jennie Kim, known mononymously as Jennie, dropped "Like Jennie" on March 7, 2025, as the lead single from her debut solo album Ruby. The track is a high-energy blend of hip-hop, Brazilian funk, and phonk, produced by Diplo, Leclair, and Jaxxtone. Over a churning electronic beat, Jennie raps with a freewheeling confidence that critics called some of her sharpest work yet. The song's hook, a chant-like repetition of her own name, turns into a declaration of self-made influence. Lines like "Keep your hair done, nails done like Jennie" and the boast that even AI can't replicate her reinforce the theme: she doesn't follow trends, she sets them.

The music video, directed by Hanbago, opens with Jennie as an astronaut before shifting into a high-energy choreography sequence with a large crew of backup dancers. A surreal final moment shows her transforming into a capybara, a nod to her well-known fondness for the animal. Released simultaneously with the single, the video became Vevo's most-watched premiere globally for the year, the first time a K-pop artist topped that chart. It crossed 100 million views on May 9, 2025, the first K-pop music video released that year to do so.

Commercially, "Like Jennie" hit number one on South Korea's Circle Digital Chart, becoming Jennie's third chart-topper there. It debuted at number five on the Billboard Global 200. The parent album Ruby sold one million copies worldwide in its first week and entered the top ten in nineteen countries. In the UK, it reached number three on the albums chart, surpassing Rosé's Rosie as the highest-charting album by a female K-pop soloist and tying Jung Kook's Golden for the highest by any K-pop solo artist.
