Like a Prayer is the fourth studio album by American singer-songwriter Madonna, released on March 21, 1989, by Sire Records and Warner Bros. Records. Building on her collaborations with producers Patrick Leonard and Stephen Bray from her previous album True Blue (1986) and the Who's That Girl soundtrack, Madonna also teamed up with Prince, who co-wrote and co-produced the track "Love Song." The album marks a significant artistic leap for Madonna, blending pop with rock and dance-pop while exploring deeply personal themes. For the first time, she confronted her Catholic upbringing, her troubled marriage to Sean Penn, the death of her mother, and her relationship with her father.
